Surface Burn

fissure 6

See below for some production images demonstrating some new techniques for breaking down surfaces. This new body of work is trying to reproduce some of the natural processes of decomposition and deconstruction. The final work is pictured above and the process images give only some idea of what this surface has been through.

Road Works

'East West' (2008) - Paraffin Encaustic, oil, bitumen, newspaper, and glass on canvas

This image was completed for the Mundaring Arts Centre 'Roadworks' Exhibition. and was accompanied by the following statement:

Nigel Hewitt has an ongoing interest in the ability of time and place to tell stories about our personal and collective histories. This image pays reference to the natural and manmade developments of our landscape and, in doing so, encourages us to stop, look closely, and consider the elements which are in continual flux, as stories and identities unfold before us.
